Y’all, this sandwich is going to knock your socks off.
After reading my italicized sentence above you may be thinking, “Dang, this girl is oddly confident in this sandwich recipe yet, this is her first sandwich recipe on this blog. She crazy”.
If that’s your opinion, I get where you’re coming from, but please trust me when I say I am a sandwich connoisseur.
It all started when I was around 5, 6-ish years old. My brother and I would sit and watch Power Rangers while enjoying a gourmet bologna sandwich with Doritos. Over the years my tastes have become more refined so I feel like I know a good sandwich when I taste one.
If you’ve been around my blog for the two whole months of its existence you may know that at the beginning of each month I share a list of things you can do that are conducive to the season we’re in. In order for me to check something off that February list, I wanted to create a new recipe using one of February’s seasonal produce.
And that is where the pear comes in on this recipe.
The other stuff is just plain tasty.
Let’s get started!
Sandwich Recipe Ingredients:
- French baguette
- 2-3 slices of prosciutto per sandwich
- one green bartlett pear
- goat cheese
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp ground thyme
- 1 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- pinch of salt
- First, we’re going to make the glaze. Pour the balsamic vinegar, sugar and pinch of salt into a sauce pan. Over medium heat, bring the mixture to a boil.
- Once it begins to boil, stir once and continue to boil until it gets thick and syrupy. When it’s gotten to that point, remove the sauce pan from heat and let cool.
- Thinly slice the pear and add that in a skillet with one tablespoon of olive oil and 1/2 tsp of thyme. Cook for about 5-7 minutes over medium heat. The pears should be soft but not mushy.
- While the pears are cooking away heat up the baguette in the oven. I bought a take and bake Archer Farms baguette from Target and per the directions I heated on 375 degrees for 10 minutes. If your baguette is already good to go, just stick it in the oven until it’s warm and toasted.
- Once the pears are cooked and your bread is heated up, it’s time to put your sandwich together! Cut your bread long-ways and apply goat cheese to both pieces of the baguette like you’re putting cream cheese on a bagel. On one slice of the baguette you’re going to layer on 2-3 pear slices, 2-3 slices of prosciutto and some arugula.
- On the other slice of the baguette, drizzle some of that balsamic glaze over the goat cheese.
- Add that slice on top of all that goodness and enjoy!
Personally, I think this sandwich is best served warm. Before I shared this recipe with y’all I made myself a mini version to ensure that it actually tasted good.
When I ate my mini version the bread and pears were still warm and it was ah-mazing. After photographing the sandwich I ate one of the halves and it was good but because everything had cooled down significantly it wasn’t as good as it was when served warm. So there’s that.
And that wraps it up for today folks! If y’all aren’t a fan of goat cheese I think brie, gorgonzola or blue cheese would be a yummy substitute.
